1. Job Description

The Hospitality Team Lead is responsible for managing daily operations at Base Camp Lodge, ensuring excellent guest experiences, and leading a team to provide top-tier service. This role involves overseeing staff, resolving guest concerns, and ensuring that all operational procedures are followed to maintain high standards.

2. Job tasks and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lodge, including staff management, guest services, and maintenance.

  • Ensure exceptional guest experiences by managing check-ins, check-outs, and addressing any guest concerns.

  • Supervise and train a team of hospitality staff, ensuring consistency in service delivery.

  • Implement and monitor operational procedures, ensuring efficiency and compliance with safety and sustainability standards.

  • Coordinate with the tour guides, kitchen staff, and housekeeping to ensure seamless service.

  • Maintain stock levels, oversee inventory management, and ensure the quality of amenities and supplies.

  • Handle guest feedback and resolve any complaints or issues promptly and professionally.

  • Support the management team in developing and executing new services or initiatives aimed at enhancing the guest experience.

3. Background, Skills and Experience 

  • At least 2 years of experience in hospitality management, ideally within a safari or eco-tourism setting.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage with both guests and staff.

  • Ability to handle guest complaints and operational challenges with professionalism and patience.

  • A strong understanding of hospitality operations, including booking systems, housekeeping, and guest services.

  • Knowledge of sustainable tourism practices is a plus.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask effectively.

4. Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in hospitality operations, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and cultural heritage is an advantage.

  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of a second language (e.g., Swahili, French) is a plus.
