Turning Every Journey into a Positive Change

Tourism should be more than just an experience; it should be a force for good. That’s why we’re committed to responsible travel that actively contributes to conservation and community development.

Every time you book a stay or a tour with us, you’re helping to protect Uganda’s wildlife, restore forests, and support local communities. We partner with impactful initiatives to ensure that the beauty of Uganda’s natural wonders and the richness of its culture are preserved for future generations. Whether it’s through supporting wildlife rescue, planting trees, or funding chimpanzee conservation, your journey with us leaves a positive footprint.

Tree Planting

1. Chimpanzee Conservation Fund
Protecting Our Closest Relatives. Chimpanzees are one of Uganda’s most iconic species, yet they face significant threats due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. The Chimpanzee Conservation Fund works tirelessly to protect these incredible primates through rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation efforts.

Your support helps:

  • Rescue and rehabilitate orphaned and injured chimps.

  • Protect their natural habitat from deforestation and encroachment.

  • Educate local communities about coexisting with wildlife.

2. Murchison Falls Wildlife Rescue
Giving Injured and Orphaned Animals a Second Chance. Uganda’s wildlife faces constant challenges, from human-wildlife conflict to injuries caused by poaching and accidents. Murchison Falls Wildlife Rescue provides a safe haven for injured, sick, and orphaned animals, ensuring they receive medical treatment and, when possible, are released back into the wild.

Your support helps:

  • Provide emergency medical care and rehabilitation for rescued animals.

  • Fund essential conservation efforts to protect Uganda’s biodiversity.

  • Train local communities on wildlife protection and coexistence strategies.

3. Trees for the Future

Restoring Uganda’s Forests One Tree at a Time. Forests play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance, supporting wildlife, and fighting climate change. Unfortunately, deforestation is a growing problem in Uganda. Trees for the Future is an initiative that promotes tree planting and sustainable land management to restore degraded forests and improve local livelihoods.

Your support helps:

  • Plant trees to restore natural habitats and combat deforestation.

  • Provide training to local farmers on sustainable agroforestry.

  • Contribute to the fight against climate change through reforestation.

How You Can Get Involved

Every traveler has the power to make a difference. Here’s how you can be part of something bigger during your stay:

  • 01

When you book a stay at Base Camp, you unlock a unique opportunity to offset your carbon footprint by planting a tree in support of our reforestation initiative. Each guest is invited to plant a seedling during their stay or dedicate a tree to be planted on their behalf — a simple, meaningful way to leave a positive mark on the environment you’ve come to enjoy.

And when you book a tour? Every one of our tours inside Murchison Falls National Park is marked with a special symbol indicating which conservation cause it supports through the park fees we pay. Whether it’s protecting chimpanzees, rescuing injured wildlife, or restoring lost forest cover — your adventure contributes to real, on-the-ground work.

But we don’t stop there. As a business, Base Camp commits to annual donations to each of these initiatives, ensuring that our support goes beyond tourism seasons and remains consistent, reliable, and impactful.

    How to get involved:

    1. Book your stay and opt-in on your booking page to plant a tree during your visit or dedicate one to be planted for you.

    2. Choose your tour — look for the conservation symbol linked to each experience. Relax knowing that your adventure, park fees, and our business donations all work together to support wildlife, protect habitats, and uplift communities.

    2. Choose to add a learning experience to your itinerary.

    Go beyond the adventure.

For guests who feel inspired to do more, we offer simple ways to extend your impact. You can make a direct donation to any of the initiatives we support, either during your stay or through our reception team. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference.

For those who want a hands-on experience, we also welcome volunteers interested in supporting conservation, animal welfare, or reforestation work. Whether it’s helping plant trees, assisting at the animal rescue center, or participating in community outreach, your time and skills are invaluable.

    How to get involved:

    1. Speak to our front desk or reservations team to learn about donation and volunteer opportunities.
