Hello and Welcome!

You’ll be greeted at Base Camp Lodge with the warm Ugandan hospitality that our people are famous for. A refreshing drink will help you shake off the journey, and from there, you can either retreat to your room for a well-deserved rest or dive straight into planning your adventure.

Every detail at Base Camp has been thoughtfully designed to connect you to the charm of Murchison Falls National Park. From the wide-open views of the Nile from our dining terrace and lounge, to the riverside deck where you can watch hippos, and the inviting pool that mirrors the African sky — you’ll feel immersed in nature from the moment you arrive.

A variety of experiences await, offering you the chance to explore both the park and the communities that surround it. Whether it’s a game drive to spot the Big Five, a boat cruise to the base of the falls, or a cultural visit to a nearby village, each activity deepens your connection to Uganda’s landscapes and its people.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We plant a tree for every guest, support local artisans through the Chwezi Collection, and ensure that tourism directly benefits the communities who call this region home. By staying with us, you become part of a movement that protects wildlife, uplifts people, and preserves the extraordinary beauty of Murchison Falls for generations to come.

Our Story

How We Got Here

We grew up in a village right next to Murchison Falls National Park, but for most of our childhood, it felt like a world apart. We would watch safari vehicles pass by, full of visitors eager to experience the wonders of the park— yet for us and many in our village, Murchison was just a distant backdrop to our daily lives. We never truly understood what made it so special. No one took us there, no one talked much about it, and no one told us it could be part of our future. Tourism was something that happened around us, not with us.

As we grew older, we visited the park and began to wonder: why did something so magnificent feel out of reach for the very people living beside it? Why did tourism create opportunities for outsiders while leaving our community behind? The more we asked, the clearer it became — it doesn’t have to be this way.

These questions led us on a journey—one that opened our eyes to the power of tourism. We saw how it could do more than just bring visitors; it could create jobs, celebrate culture, and uplift entire communities.

Thus three friends created Base Camp—a place where tourism isn’t just about travelers passing through, but about people coming together. A place where guests don’t just see Uganda’s beauty, but also experience its warmth, culture, and stories. A place where the community doesn’t just watch from the sidelines, but joins in, benefits, learns, and grows.

For us, Base Camp is more than a lodge—it’s a movement. A movement to make tourism inclusive, responsible, and a driver of real impact in local communities across Africa.

Our Responsibility

Travel + Good

At Base Camp, we believe that tourism should do more than just bring visitors to beautiful places—it should leave those places better than it found them.

Our responsibility starts with the people who call this land home. We work hand in hand with our community, creating jobs, supporting local businesses, and making sure tourism benefits everyone, not just a few. From sourcing fresh ingredients from nearby farmers to training and hiring local guides, we are committed to building opportunities where they matter most.

But responsibility doesn’t stop with people—it extends to the land and wildlife that make Uganda so special. We embrace sustainable practices in everything we do, from using eco-friendly construction and solar energy to minimizing waste in order to support conservation efforts (more about the conservation efforts we support in the areas we operate). We believe that protecting our environment isn’t just an option—it’s a duty.

When you stay with us, you’re not just booking a room; you’re becoming part of something bigger. You’re supporting a lodge that values people, protects nature, and believes in the power of responsible tourism to create lasting IMPACT.

Partners & Collaborators

The Dream Team

Our extraordinary journeys are built through strong partnerships. We work with a carefully selected network of expert guides, transport providers, adventure specialists, and conservation partners to ensure every Base Camp experience is safe, immersive, and filled with discovery.

Our partnerships extend across the tourism ecosystem—from tour operators and travel agencies to international adventure travel brands. Together, we design experiences that take travelers beyond the ordinary, whether it’s wildlife safaris in Murchison Falls National Park, gorilla trekking in Bwindi, or remote expeditions into Uganda’s most spectacular landscapes.

We collaborate with trusted 4x4 transport providers and charter flight operators to ensure seamless travel throughout every journey. Our accommodation partners—including eco-lodges, boutique properties, and wilderness camps—provide comfortable stays that remain closely connected to nature.

Equally important are our local partnerships. By working with artisans, cultural groups, small businesses, and community initiatives, we help ensure tourism creates real opportunities for the people who live around the destinations we visit. We also support conservation organizations, national park authorities, and eco-tourism initiatives that protect Uganda’s wildlife and natural heritage.

Through these collaborations, Base Camp creates meaningful travel experiences while supporting local communities and responsible tourism.
