Community Engagement Officer

Coordinate with local partners, support community projects, and ensure ethical impact across all Base Camp activities.
1. Job Description
As the Community Engagement Officer, you will work closely with local communities to support sustainable development and create positive social impact through Base Camp’s initiatives. You’ll be responsible for building relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders to ensure that Base Camp’s operations benefit both the environment and local people.
2. Job tasks and Responsibilities
Establish and maintain relationships with local community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
Develop and implement community engagement programs that align with Base Camp’s sustainability goals.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of community initiatives and projects, ensuring they meet environmental and social standards.
Coordinate and promote partnerships with local businesses, artisans, and service providers to support the local economy.
Assist in organizing community-based events, workshops, and educational programs on sustainable tourism and conservation.
Advocate for Base Camp’s social responsibility initiatives through direct engagement with local groups and media.
Support fundraising efforts for community projects and assist in the allocation of resources.
Regularly report on community engagement progress and provide recommendations for improvements.
3. Background, Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of sustainable tourism practices and community development.
Proven experience in community outreach, partnership building, or social impact projects.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with local leaders and residents.
Ability to create and execute community programs that foster positive relationships and support local development.
Knowledge of the cultural, economic, and environmental challenges facing local communities.
Experience working in rural or underserved areas is an advantage.
4. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Sciences, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in community engagement, development, or a related field.
Proficiency in English (knowledge of local languages like Luganda, Runyoro, or Swahili is a plus).
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
A passion for social responsibility, conservation, and sustainable development.
